The Golden Dragon of Sumud 

In the beginning, when the seas were restless and the winds carried the cries of the oppressed, there arose a dragon unlike any other. Her body was vast, her tail coiled around the shores of Spain and North Africa, where the great flotilla of Sumud gathers. 

Her head stretched eastward, her golden jaws open wide, guarding the lands of Palestine and Lebanon from those who sought their ruin.

This dragon was not born of fire or smoke, but of transformation. She fed not on flesh or innocent blood, but on the poison of the destroyers, the ogres of genocide, the architects of terror. 

Each time she devoured such darkness, she transmuted it within herself. 

From ruin, she created radiance. From violence, she forged protection. 

And upon her back, scale by golden scale, a new armour grew, each one a shield for the Global Sumud Flotilla, each one a testament that destruction could be remade into defense, death into unyielding life.

The dragon moved not only with the currents of the sea, but with the constellations above. Her breath shimmered with the oldest wisdom, that which had watched empires rise and fall and had whispered secrets into the roots of the earth. 

She was and still is the bridge between stars and soil, between the wounded present and the eternal resilience of peoples who refuse to be erased.

Those who journey with her are carried by her strength. 

Their boats glide in safety upon the ocean swells, guided by her vast presence. She is their guardian, their protector, their unbreakable companion.

And so it is told: as long as there are destroyers, the dragon will feast upon them. 

As long as there are tyrants, her scales will multiply. 

Her golden back will blaze brighter with each act of transmutation, until no darkness can pierce the radiance she has become.

This is how it is. This is how it will be.

SOME RESEARCH AND FINDING of the GOLDEN DRAGON in the LEVANT

 ...when humanity reaches its darkest time, the Mediterranean Dragon , representing deep, ancient wisdom of sea and earth can reawaken as a protector against destructive forces, restoring balance.
The slaying of the dragon = the slaying/suppression of sacred earth wisdom (goddess, cyclical, chthonic powers) by patriarchal sky-gods.

​The awakening of dragons = the return of suppressed powers in times of crisis when human or cosmic order collapses, the latent dragon rises again, potentially as protector rather than enemy.
This is not “New Age invention” It is consistent with how myth cycles treat chaos monsters: as dormant cosmic forces that return in dark ages or end-times.

Goddess Traditions on the Mediterranean Coast The Phoenician goddesses (Baalat Gebal at Byblos, Astarte at Tyre and Sidon, Tanit in Carthage) were sea-linked protectors.

They were invoked by sailors for safe passage across the Mediterranean, their temples doubling as ports of protection.

Their symbols (doves, ships, the crescent, the solar disk) tied them to both earth wisdom and the sea’s life-giving but dangerous cycles.

As patriarchal myths rose, the goddesses’ fluid, maritime, and fertile qualities were increasingly subordinated to storm-gods or sky-fathers. In this sense: the “slaying of the dragon” mirrors the subjugation of the goddess of the sea and earth , a symbolic slaying of maritime/earth wisdom traditions.

Symbolically: when humanity reaches its darkest time, the Mediterranean Dragon , representing deep, ancient wisdom of sea and earth can reawaken as a protector against destructive forces, restoring balance. So the link is clear: The Mediterranean Sea itself was mythologised as the primordial dragon in the Levant.

The slaying of Yam/Lotan represents the suppression of older, goddess-linked, sea/earth wisdom.
But the sea-dragon always remains present, latent beneath the Mediterranean a power that can return in times of great upheaval.

Here’s a conceptual map of the Levantine coastline, showing the key sites where goddess traditions and dragon/sea myths intersect:

​Byblos (Baalat Gebal) – Lady of Byblos, sea protectress
Tyre & Sidon (Astarte) – “Our Lady of the Sea”
Beirut – localised legend of St George and the Dragon
Jaffa – Perseus & Andromeda’s sea-monster- Palestine 
Ugarit – Baal slays Yam/Lotan, the earliest sea-dragon myth

(research on many sites, readings and praying. Dragons as you know, all over our world, earth and cosmos are connected to the ancient earth wisdom, a threat to patriarchy... as patriarchy crumbles we will feel the vital energy of dragon rising to protect the living.  We must feed them though. )

ABOUT/A PROPOS de BUZURUNA JUZURUNA 
Supporting agroecology in Lebanon Lebanese association and School-Farm, active since 2016 and registered in 2018, based in Saadnayel, Beqaa. The 2 hectars farm is specialized in the selection and multiplication of heirloom seeds, from a collection gathering more than 300 ancient and local varieties. The farm produces organic vegetables, fruits, dairies, honey, processed-food, and natural preparations (fertilizers and biopesticides). Every year, BJ's training center welcomes training cycles for different audiences: local farmers and gardeners, vulnerable families, children classes, etc. taught about the various topics of agro-ecology (soil management, natural fertilization, pests and diseases management, etc). In 2018, a full curriculum was created in Arabic, that is now available in open-source. Finally, BJ is working as agricultural expert on agroecology for many different projects, both within funded-projects and on a volunteer basis.

WE HAVE OPENNED A PARTICIPATORY FUNDING FOR BUZURUNA JUZURUNA “BUJU”

PROJECTS , THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your donations and solidarity.  The money will go towards 2 projects:
This funding will be used to finance various projects carried out by the Buzuruna Juzuruna school farm and its partners. Key projects for 2025 include :

- The Bulaban Circus: for the past 3 years, a small circus initiation association has set up its big top in the middle of the farm to introduce children (from the farm and the neighborhood) to circus, manual and artistic activities.
In 2024, the Bulaban collective enabled some forty children to take part in weekly workshops; an opportunity for them to imagine and bring stories to life, learn new tricks and have fun together. These workshops culminated in June with a beautiful parade through the streets of Saadnayel!
In order to be able to continue their work, we would like to support them by purchasing materials that will be used to run the workshops. 

- The creation of a new collective garden on the Beqaa plain. This garden will benefit 15 families (Syrian and Lebanese), covering 1 hectare. 
These gardens are intended to last over time. In doing so, we hope to meet a number of local challenges:
- Provide a healthy, local food supply;
- Enabling families to become more self-sufficient and less dependent on subsidies and/or market prices;
- Break out of isolation by creating a space for inter-community collaboration between host and refugee families;
- Improve living conditions;
- Anticipate future crises that could exacerbate food insecurity.

The funds raised will be used, among other things, to finance the purchase of tools, irrigation systems, training...

ABOUT BUZURUNA JUZURUNA 
Supporting agroecology and human permaculture in Lebanon

​The roots of this work of initiation through the sacred work of  grief and gratitude​

By the age of 10, I had already experienced 10 foster families, extreme violence, prolonged sexual abuse, civil war, abandonment, neglect and exile.

I also remember a voice speaking to my young heart that I had a lucky star and that all of these experiences of suffering would. one day or night. be used to help others. May it be so

In the pathologizing system of our modern world, I was 'fucked' - for life!
Or, at best, I would fit into a modern trauma recovery program, jumping through various government nets. I became... diseases, pathologies, medicines and institutions.

The story that I carried everywhere, as the framework within which all future experiences were to be woven into, was that - I was unwanted, unwelcome and illegitimate...

But the soul loves beauty and truth. She had other choreographies in mind for this precious life of mine..
 
In 1997, at 31, I found myself a single mother with a young boy.
After years of stumbling through a maze of trauma-based crises and behaviors, I experienced my first initiatique ceremony with others who were also stumbling through life with broken hearts and shredded souls.

There we sat in a circle with beauty placed at the center of everything. We lit a fire, we were enveloped by the night sky pierced with timeless stars. We sang, we drummed, we sobbed and roared. We danced and shared deeply and awkwardly our grief, our broken hearts from the generations behind and we talked about our longings..the longings of our Earth.
We were welcomed and felt that we were finally legitimate.

I didn't even know the names of the trees or their songs. My soul was so 'poor and hungry'. My soul was screaming from my conception. I was beginning to hear. For the very first time, I felt like I had a choice in how I was going to live, love and die.

It was the beginning of my initiation into the language and ways of the soul - the soul of me and of creation - Anima Mundi.

The framing of the story of my life, hitherto only a crude and brutal initiation, was now weaving a new blanket, that of the sacred initiations.

My life was starting to change from pathology to a life rooted in homecoming  rituals, a widening circle of kinship, true beauty, generous myths, wise metaphors, ancient archetypes, wild imagination, Earth arts, deep music and a integrated entanglement with the visible, the invisible and the well and wise ancestors.

An apprenticeship in the sacredness of suffering is slowly embodied in me.

When I did a Master of Art at Schumacher College (UK) at 50, after leaving school at 14, I knew it was going to be another essential passage for the ripening of my offering.

The master's degree in Ecological Design Thinking led me to write and propose a ritual that I entitled: "The Art of Collective Grieving as if Life and Death really Matter​. This was in 2016.

My suffering no longer scares me, it has become the raw material of the alchemist and artist in me. If suffering is inevitable, then it is the wisdom that can come from it.
​My new book I'm writing talks about it: "Pathosophy: Wisdom Born of Suffering. A living Art" and will include the 6 Gates of Initiation

Today, in 2022, I propose a more mature version of the work of the last 6 years with the Cercles de Compostages de Deuil-
​The 6 Portals of Initiation - an 8 month apprenticeship through Mourning and Gratitude.

It starts in English on April 3 and in French on April 10.

We will meet on the first SUNDAY of the month from 3rd April, 2022
on ZOOM-land with moments with soil and Earth as well as creative moments.
We will enter spaces of rituals, we will have moments of writing, we will explore and feel the 6 portals together and in our 'soulitude'.
​
For the maturing of our species through collective rituals - we become welcomed and rightful - in the company ofGrief, Love, the Death and Re-birth- the Four Sisters.

After my father’s death my heart burst open with pain, shame, loneliness and anger. Old forgotten feelings resurfaced and multiplied. The ones that have been pushed down in to the damn of my river. The ones that as a child have been swallowed so I wouldn’t gag in order for me to survive and breathe, to fit in and to be accepted with no place to go and no ground to lie down and rest. The heart heavy and broken. No witnessing or welcoming by a community. Only the echo of the world telling me that I don’t need to grieve so much in life all the time and that I will be ok if I just move on and keep my tears dry. To not think of Death. To not speak to Grief. To not sing and re-open my heart to life. 

What a gift it was to receive the invitation to my first Grief Composting Circle held by Azul Thome in Slovenia in 2018. The mystery of the calling and the vision of my dreams.  

Everything changed at that single moment as I entered the sacred space of Grief and Gratitude Ceremony. The wild in me came alive courting and honoring my sensitivity and allowing me to become a pilgrim in the landscape of my soul. Finding and hearing my own voice that has been silent for so long. Bringing so much beauty and awe in to my whole being. Fermenting the deep listening to myself, all the people that joined in circle and the invisible. Touching the thread of the wound holding us together. The embrace of the seen and unseen bringing me back to my roots and my own authentic self.   

The gates of grief opened with an explosion of tears of love for all that has been taken away, killed, destroyed, lost, passed down, shamed and forgotten. The release and swaddling of my heart with a magnitude of soul medicine I have never felt before.  The healing powers of love that widens our circle, interconnects us with all beings, drums and dances to the heartbeat of Mother Earth, breaks the illusion of being separate and brings us back home to the web of life. 
​
The journey of becoming an apprentice to Soul and Grief has been forever awaken. And as it awakes in one it touches all of us. It is a seed that is forever planted. It is a harbor and a light house guiding my work as an End-of-Life Doula, as a holder of Grief and Gratitude circles. It is a living and ever-changing invitation and a conversation to go deeper and deeper while softening all that is hard, expanding and accompanying a culture that is dying.

“Praising the rooted standing ones and all the ones who have gone extinct. I am sitting on the Ancestors’ bones and on Death seedlings. The vultures are mentoring me to pay attention. Here in la Drôme in the South East in France the water flows from 1000 fountains, the water is well and drinkable, she reminds us…

I am in France accidentally as if spat out of England! I have not said good bye to England/Albion and have not been welcomed here in France while dictatorship is showing its flags... so I live where we all live…in between stories.
A very creative and chaotic place to court. My body is recovering from long covid thanks to you generous funders, the plants, healers and prayers. The heat, the mountains and the wild ones have supported me also.
Fear often grabs me at 3am when I wake up gasping for air, we both learn to dance and she leaves for a bit with the sun rays.
Who keeps you company I wonder… This full newsletter is a delicious basket of French and English offerings.  May some of it feed you deeply and beautifully.

Many will be starting after the Equinox, to support us navigating when the darker times wrap itself around us.. We increasingly feel the ‘paradox of an absurd apocalypse’. The translation or rather the hidden roots of the words form a new meaning for me that I long to share for it could be the ingredients soul needs for our collective rough rite of passage.

Updates on “Pathosophy: Wisdom Born of Suffering and Grief”

Diving in. What I would like to share here is that the writing of my gestating book :Pathosophy: Wisdom Born of Suffering and Griefis demanding…everything from me!. 
It might be time, to share the thresholds of my life story from the alchemist and medicine woman point of view. Of when I was pathologised and what happened to alchemise the suffering and grief. What are the ways that I called Pathosophy to sit at my Council. Am I 'passaged' initiated and mature enough, your response will tell when you read the book! Your welcoming will tell me if I have honoured my life in ways that can serve the healing, welcoming and legitimacy of you and of life herself. 
Head to the soil I pray for rootedness and steadiness for the next few months. ​

" My dear child do not worry about me, Water. I recover quickly with the song of our birds, the love of trees, with movement, moments of rest and the prayers moving around our Earth. I regain balance with your heartfelt tears, your remembered songs added to the ones of so many now. Do not focus your energy on 'Saving me'. Something way more profound is taking place right now, listen and observe! 

All of us; Soil, Water, Plants, Air, Animals and all Ancestors are Calling you Humans, to Us so we can Save your species. We know and have known for a while that you do not have much time left if you do not wake up to your birthright Belonging to Earth and come Home soon, real real soon. We keep dying, we keep Giving Away our Lives to shake you up from a deep and very long amnesia. Once you can allow the truth and quality of such Love to permeate through your traumatised being and desolate soul you will wake up from a life time of anaesthesia to your immense grief and capacity for Love.

When you create containers of sacred beauty that opens your Heart to what Love truly is then you will realise with a massive Sob that you were loved all along, always have and for ever by all of Us who you think You are Saving! 

You have five years​ as a species to Wake up, Mature and Remember in your bones that you belong to Life."

Azul, The journey through Earth Art filled my soul and brought to light so many ancient ideas. It was truly a gift to sit in community with you and people from around the world.
I appreciate your transparency with responses such as: “that is not my language” and modelling the gift economy. 
With passionate embrace and heartfelt words, you held a gentle and deep container like none I've felt before. Taking these seeds out to our community will benefit so many.
I honor the sacred art, prayer and poetry combination as well as your service and wisdom! Many Blessings on your travels!

Azul facilitated a wonderfully transformative experience. She created an inclusive and welcoming space that was held gently that allowed for good connection with each other, with ourselves and with nature. She is a weaver and embodies integrity. Even though I would prefer to work face to face it would only really be possible for me on zoom and I felt Azul created an excellent balance of on and offline working and created intimacy which is difficult to do online. I really valued this experience and would highly recommend to others.

HOW MANY: In a small group of 10 peopleWHEN: Sunday afternoons, starting 11th July 2021 
6 Sundays ~ 3:30pm to 7pm (Europe time- Paris)
11 th July ~ 18th July ~ 25th July ~ 1st Aug ~ 8th Aug ~ 15th Aug21 Hours of eARTh ART .

The investment for you will be as follow
INVESTMENT with financial conscious participation.ROOT (basic investment - for all) - £150 - TO PAY NOW
for the 21 hours of eARTh ART online

Azul hopes in that way to give a chance to people with little finance to be able to join her classes.

The REFUND of the course will only take place if Azul needs to cancel the course for unforeseen reasons. If for some reasons you cannot carry on Azul will not be able to refund you.

WHAT WILL WE MAKE?
~we will start with intuitive writing, checking in, following the movement of our creative Soul.
~we will make an eARTH POD with our allies to gather our sacred things into.
~we will work with clay or wood for the making of an Inner Council set.

We will gather on ZOOMland and spend time outdoors to our 'Courting place', away from the screen. We will be as close as possible to the way we could be in a workshop by the garden. We will not stare at the screen all the time promise!

There are no tickets available for individual Sundays. We will start together and aim to complete our creative journey together.

There will be optional 'home-coming work' between the sessions.I am so very delighted to meet you all soon and create together the world of our longing through arts as prayers & sacred beauty!

Thank you for this eARThArt journey. I very much appreciated your presence. Although your spirituality and practice take a different form to mine, I felt your depth and authenticity, and I trusted your leading. You listened to each of us deeply, and really saw us, and that was a gift. From what I can see, you are a fierce and loving warrior for the earth who ‘walks the talk’, and I admire the way you live in trust of provision. I was very moved by your art that you showed us - you bring a depth and intention to your practice that I am trying to find for myself.
You held the zoom process with sensitivity and creativity, and were able to adapt when needed. Although it’s a course I imagine would be best held ‘in person’, I was happy for the opportunity to take part on line, and it was a delight to meet with a group of women dispersed around the world.
